Well, of course. These cats have been doing the same things for years. Rather was just careless and got caught. If anyone things the major talking heads are not biased against Christianity and conservatism, they need to lift their heads up and get some fresh air. The jihad of Rather, Brokaw and Jennings against Republicans and conservatism is completely appropriate, of course. If I do it it is right; if you do it it is wrong. Thus, immanent ethical systems.

In the old days, at least according to the stories my mother read to me as a boy, the trolls lived under the bridge and required everyone to pay tribute. My favorite was "The Billy Goats Gruff," and I remember that the troll came to a bad end.

Nowadays, the trolls wear business suits and work the internet. They still get their tribute, but their tactics are more subtle. This may be the best news of the week. If Teddy and the rest will go to a baseball game once in a while, they will have that much less time to mess around with the nation.

This writer grew up in the golden age of baseball. Many and many an afternoon I was glued to the radio, static and all, listening to those great Yankee teams [Ahh... Yogi, Vic, Allie, Whitey, Hank, Phil, Bobby, Joe, Mickey, etc] beating the tar our of the Washington Senators [Washington: First in War, First in Peace, Last in the American League].

In those good old days, the Yankees could use teams like the St. Louis Browns as a farm team, making trades if by chance St. Louis got a good player, to help them with the run for the pennant. There was no socialism in baseball, the rich got richer and the poor got clobbered on a regular basis. I was an unabashed Yankee fan: it was a lot more fun when they won 20-2 than when they won 1-0. I have always loved winners since then--no rooting for the underdog in my psyche. I could never have been a Red Sox or a Cub fan. Who goes to hell on purpose? My best friend was a Cleveland fan, and I felt sorry for him.

Losers like the Washington Senator had a role to play in the cosmic meaning of things: the elevation of the New York Yankees at the top of the baseball world, which meant beating up on the real Dodgers in the World Series; Yogi was better than Roy, Phil was better than Pee Wee, Hank was better than Gil, Joe and then Mickey were better than anyone, and Whitey, Allie, and Vic could pitch a whole game day after day after day, and the Yankees would humilitate the likes of Don Newcombe in spite of his 30 wins. Relief pitchers were has-beens that only got into the game after it was won or lost.

The teams were the same year after year; no socialist dream of parity; and no free aqency. You could afford tickets for the whole family, but I couldn't go, of course: there were no teams within 1500 miles of southern Oregon. But I was glued to the radio whenever I could. My first games on television were the 1956 World Series--Don's perfect game and Yogi Berri destroying Newcombe in the 7th game. A..ah!


So bring back the Senators. Congress will be better, and baseball will be better, especially if the new Senators are as awful as the old ones were.

In the Media: "When U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan opined last week to the BBC that the U.S.-led overthrow of Saddam Hussein had been 'illegal,' two words came instantly to my mind: baby food.
No, I'm not comparing Mr. Annan's thoughts to pabulum. He is a smart man, adept enough that even in his BBC moment of condemning the U.S. (perhaps mindful that the U.S. is the U.N.'s chief financial backer) he took the trouble to blur responsibility for his own words, amending his use of 'I' to the royal 'we.' Said Mr. Annan: 'From our point of view, from the charter point of view, it was illegal.'
It's unclear exactly whose collective view Mr. Annan thinks he was authorized to express, or under what terms in the U.N. charter he casts himself on some occasions as the hapless servant of the Security Council, and at other times, such as this, as the outspoken chief judge of world law.
But if Mr. Annan wants to discuss right and wrong in Iraq, which seems to be the real issue, then it is time to talk about baby formula. Why? Because Mr. Annan's preferred means of dealing with Saddam was a mix of U.N. sanctions and the U.N. relief program called Oil-for-Food. And the heart and soul of Oil-for-Food was supposed to be the feeding of sick and hungry Iraqi babies--including the purchase by Saddam, under U.N. auspices, of large amounts of baby formula. When Oil-for-Food was launched in 1996, it was advertised by the U.N. as a response to such horrors as pictures of starving Iraqi children and alarming statistics about infant mortality in Iraq, released by one of the U.N.'s own agencies, Unicef. "

So what's new. This was true more than forty years ago when I helped open a new Christian school in Anderson, California, in the days before the rush to private education. Public school teachers were the largest professional group of parents who placed their children in our school, and it remained the case for the twenty five years I was there.

This is a greater scandal than big tobacco. What have the professional teachers known, and how long have the professionals in public school known? The states have been serving up worse poison than big tobacco, and more junk than the fast food industry. Where is a fast talking trial lawyer when you need one?

Indeed, all the networks, FOX included, helped Gore by prematurely calling the Florida polls as closed at 7:00 PM Eastern Time when in fact they were still open until 8:00 in the state's western Panhandle (which is heavily Republican), and almost immediately they declared Democrat Bill Nelson the winner of the state's U.S. Senate race. So, you see, the slimey behavior of CBS news and the other major networks did not begin with Rathergate. They have been sleezeballs for a very long time.

This is also the seed of liberalism in the church. The liberal gets his authority from the church; the believer from Scripture. It is the beginning of the loss of the liberty of the believer when church law and authority replaces the believer acting from conscience. The liberal church man says, "I act from denominational authority." The believer respons, "And I, from Scripture."

To the liberal, "Is it legal?" is the best question, because he can then manipulate the political processes, whether in church or state, to secure a favorable legislative framework for his private agenda. It is much harder to manipulate the Scriptures, although they try that the same way, by adopting "positions" that are placed between the soul of the believer and the Scriptures.

International law thus provides a clear example of the Left-Right divide. To the Left, an international action is right if nations such as China, Russia, France and Syria vote for it, and wrong if they vote against it. To the Right and to the religious, an action is good (or bad) irrespective of the votes of the world's nations. They judge it by a code of morality higher than international law."

Prager nails it. When Chief Justice Earl Warren, in the midst of a lengthy legal defense of discrimination against blacks in the nations schools, asked "But is it right?" he indicated that the matter would be settled in equity, or on the basis of morality, and not law.

This shows how much conservatism and liberalism has switched sides over the last half-century. Liberal argue the same as conservatism did against integration those many years ago, appealing to law when they want abortion, sodomite marriage, etc. Blacks who support these arguments do not realize that they are undercutting the very foundation of the rights that they have gained in law over the last years.

For, you see, the rights of a black man are based upon morality, and can only be secure if they are God-given, for such rights cannot be permanently alienated. The "rights" to abortion, homosexuality, etc., are not given by God, but are given by a state that has been manipulated by evil. No black should want his rights to rest upon such a foundation.

Newsday.com: As Rather goes, so goes network news: "Some might argue that Rather was just a duped news reader, that he was simply following orders. In which case, following the precedent established in the 1998 'Tailwind' scandal-in which CNN's Peter Arnett was forced to quit after he read phony copy about Americans using poison gas in Laos-Rather should still be forced to take his leave.

But even if he limps along at CBS till the expiration of his contract in 2006, Rather is done for. He will be remembered as a reporter-crusader who went chasing after the Big Story both courageously and recklessly. Whatever the subject - hurricanes, Watergate, Afghanistan, George W. Bush - he was always on a quest. And like Captain Ahab, the obsessive anti-hero of Moby-Dick, Rather had many successes, but then he went harpooning after one too many a whale."

Even John Kerry -- the nominee of Wilson's own party -- sounds disdainful of attempts to spread freedom to places like Cuba and Iran. "

The moral and social revolution of the sixties tried manfully to discredit the idea that America had something to offer to the world. Our motives were suspect, we were controlled by the evil industrial/political complex, and were the world's bad boys. That generation has now passed through the bowels of America without being digested and completely dominates Hollywood, the major news media, the Democratic party, and public education, many private institutions of higher learning, and churches of all stripes. They imagined that there was not enough love in the world [not that they could recognize love if it hit them on the head], and that the world would be saved through love, not war. They would show us how. They begin by making monsters out of Nixon and LBJ. [An important part of this new love was to make monsters out of those who got in your way, to riot and burn and destroy at every opportunity, manufacture and sell and use mind-changing drugs, practice absolute indiscriminate sexuality with whomever, defecate publicly, and curse and utter obscenities at those in authority. This is the way to change the world.] Nixon and LBJ certainly were not choir boys, but they were not Satan, either. John Kerry and Jane Fonda were some of the brightest heroes of that rebellion.

A man may have a choice as to which path he takes in life, one of submission to Scripture, or one of rebellion to the plain truth, but he does not have a choice to the way the path goes. If he finds he is on the wrong road, he cannot get on the right road by pretending he is on the right road. No, he must retrace his steps [this is called repentance], and find where he went astray.

That generation became intoxicated with what they deemed their success in the failure of America in Viet Nam, and look back fondly to such times of American intoxication with their peculiar form of philosophic witch's brew. They are like men who look back with nostalgia at their college days with fond memories of their drunken orgies, never having repented, and wishing it could happen again. "Such good times," they sigh. The wickedness escapes them.

9/11 did serve as something of a laxative to the American system, and some of that generation begin to see things differently--George Bush in particular. He and Bill Clinton are very much of that generation, but Bush has rejected the 60's generation view of foreign affairs, which Bill Clinton never did. The next physic the public body receives might work to purge a great deal more of the awful stuff from our body. May it be so.

Pr 30:11 There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
Pr 30:12 There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness.
Pr 30:13 There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.

There is a lot of anger being generated by this political campaign. Some people get angry when lies are told about their candidate, and others get angry when the truth is told about their candidate.

I am not one who thinks that anger is always sinful, but I have learned something in my seventy years on this earth. Anger must be short-lived. Old dynamite is dangerous to everyone for it is unstable. Old anger--or what the Bible calls malice--is also dangerous to everyone, a corrosive that destroys the souls of those who hold it. I suppose this is the reason that the Bible tells us not to let the sun go down on our wrath.

Some people want power and wealth so badly that they will say anything, do anything, and hide anything in order to get it. Rarely has murder been tried in this country, but character assassination, false witness, and other ugliness clog the national arteries. Resentments may last a lifetime.

God is angry with the wicked every day, so it is not improper for the godly to reflect that aspect of God's character, but with a difference. God's character is infinite and absolutly pure and His anger is pure and holy, though eternal. Your's and mine aren't.

David prayed a good prayer once on this subject:

19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
--Psalm 139.

David recognized that is is a good thing to hate wickedness and evil, and it certainly is an evil thing to help the enemies of God and love those who hate the Lord [2Chron. 19:2]. He also knew that he was an imperfect judge of such things, and therefore called upon the Lord to search his heart and know his thoughts. Righteousness in anger grows out of godliness and maturity, not childishness pettiness.

Jesus teaches us to turn a gentle face to the world and to pray for our enemies and for those who mistreat us. This is not contradictory to the truth that the rulers of the world are to use the sword against evildoers [Romans 13:1-3].

What we have is treason, and CBS should be made to pay for it by an outraged public opinion. The question that is operative: After Bill Clinton, is if possible for America to be outraged?

The Kerry handlers, desperately searching for signs of a rainbow, have begun to treat him as though he were all three of Dorothy's companions in 'The Wizard of Oz' - Tin Man, who needs a heart, Cowardly Lion searching for courage and Scarecrow in pursuit of a brain. At least one Russian gets it. Communism was a monster and killed millions in terms of it unrealistic religio-economic heresies, but Communism was a Christian heresy. As I wrote in one issue of Basket of Figs, God has many angels. Some are very dark and awful angels. If we will not listen to the glorious and pure ones, He will send us others. The judgments of the Book of Revelation are difficult indeed to understand; but one thing is certain: they are all directed by Him who sits upon the glorious throne of Heaven.

No, you have it backwards, Mr. Rather, on all counts. You have to prove them authentic; until you do you are the professional paid liar, and the professional rumor mill par excellence. But we have been on to you for a long time.

Dan Rather's bias is coming through loud and clear. The questions that have been raised about John Kerry's Viet Nam service are "serious and legitimate." But we do not see Rather airing them over and over again. Why does the one [Bush's] have to be disproved but the other [Kerry's] proved? There is no greater bias than this: the defects of your case have to be proved, but the alleged defects of your opponents case are accepted without verification.

The only bright spot is this: no one takes CBS and Dan Rather seriously anyway. CBS has David Letterman, and he is fun sometimes. Maybe CBS should rename their news the Dan Rather Early Night Show, and include episodes of "Will It Float" to provide real entertainment. At least Dan Rather should be required to register as a lobbyist for the Democratic Party and his partisan ads should include disclaimers as to who has approved his remarks, as they do on all policital ads nowadays.

CBS should fire Rather immediately, if they want to be considered a serious news outlet again. The emperor has no clothes.

Wrong, Mr. Greenberg. This is the reason that totalitarianism cannot succeed. It is not who controls the past, be He who controls the future that counts.

The present proceeds from the future, not the past. What happens today is determined by what will happen in the future. But, you ask, how can you control the future? Exactly.

Only God contols the future and "all things work together for good to them who love God, to them who are called according his purpose," the apostle Paul wrote.

Isaiah was told to proclaim the Word of God: "Say to the righteous, 'It will be well with you." Say to the unrighteous, 'It will not be well with you.'" Such is determined by God. Babylon is fallen, Satan's kingdom is overthrown, and the meek will inherit the earth.

Christians are called to live by faith; this means at least that what we do today is determined by what is promised by God. Very well said, Mr Gore. You have expressed in very clear terms the contempt you have for American Christianity. We knew it all the time, but you never said it so well before.

Gore hasn't heard because he hasn't been listening. He speaks from his sense of moral superiority and religious contempt that liberals have for every viewpoint not their own. The philosophical and religious roots of his faith also go 'way back, to the Garden of Eden and to the hiss of the serpent, "ye shall be as gods." There is no love for truth, for there is no truth; truth is whatever it takes to get you elected or to defeat your enemies.

The trouble with not discerning differences in religion [Religion of tolerance], is this: when you refuse to see differences in religion, you don't thereby make them all benign. No, you make them all like Islam Fundamentalism. Gore reveals a reprobate mind, a mind that cannot discern between good and evil. As the image of God, he must think in terms of misery and destruction, but he cannot think in biblical terms of eternal vengeance and fire and brimstone. He rejects the personal responsibility of the biblical Day of Judgment, and instead would terrorize the world in terms of global warming and the appocalypse of George W. Bush. He believes very strongly in hell, and Republicans are it. He sees salvation in different terms that the religions he scorns, but he would be more destructive than they. He reveals his corrupt mind set when he would equate Republicans and George Bush with the Taliban. Is this perverse or what? Abortion is not a holocaust, but a Republican victory is. Sodomite marriage is good and pure, but Focus on the Family is the same as Hamas. Mr. Gore would eliminate sin, but to him sin is not defined by the Ten Commandments, but in terms that make liberals comfortable and in power. Hence, sodomites and babykillers are good; communism and theft are good; religious convictions are evil; faith in Christ is evil. Go figure.

If a man tries to make everything a miracle, he does not thereby make the world wonderful; no, he has eliminated miracle for the world, for he makes the resurrections of Christ the same as the birth of a rattlesnake. In the same way, a man who sees no difference in religions does not thereby make all religions the same; he merely reduces them all to equality, and the message of Christ with its unique claims becomes the same as the message of Mohammed. It is true that some misguided and corrupt men who had the name of Christian killed their enemies, but they did not do so at the command of Christ. The same cannot be said of the followers of Mohammed.

As I have said before, 9/11 was a profound religious event for America. It questioned our fundamental faith in our religion of tolerance. We must reject it, or die, for God cannot be reduced to an idol.

They just don't get it. The wounded cries coming out of the liberal big press show that they don't get it.

It's all style with these guys. They just can't abide the idea that the Kerry idea is what is being rejected, not his style. We do get it, Mr. or Ms. Talking Head. We just don't like it. We do not see any reason to elect John Kerry. We don't hate Mr. Bush nearly as much as you do, for we do not see the need to protect abortion rights, the right to fornicate, the right to be a sodomite, the right to tax and spend to maintain power.

You see, we do get it. Renewed attacks on Mr. Bush; more negative ads about the National Guard are silly and will just remind us of a small boy complaining to his mother that his little sister just hit him again.

It isn't Kerry's style; it isn't style at all. It has to do with something called authenticity. It isn't that Mr. Kerry doesn't seem authentic. He isn't authentic. He just wants to be president and will do and say anything to destroy those who are in his way. We got it and we don't like it.

There probably isn't anything that the guys in the mainstream press--no matter how they spout the talking points given them by Democratic National Committee--can do about it. Those who have spent their lives defending fornication rights, abortion rights, and the rights of sodomites will not understand authenticity if it hit them in the face. It did at 9/11 and they still didn't get it.

Things changed in this country at 9/11. Bush's actions on that day and on the days after were not studied exercises in politics, although politics were not ignored. They were authentic reactions, something that you know nothing about.
