A vehicle for venting on philosophy, religion, and the general state of things. Proprietor: C. W. Powell

Both wars on poverty are being lost. Is there a relationship?

A Poverty of Thought: "The senator [Barack Obama], 44, is just 30 months older than the 'war on poverty' that President Johnson declared in January 1964. Since then the indifference that is as bad as active malice has been expressed in more than $6.6 trillion of anti-poverty spending, strictly defined."

We are losing the wars against both kinds of poverty. Ignorance of basic princples of thought, morals, religion, and law abounds on every side, in spite of trillions of local, state, federal, and foundation grants to education. “Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it?” (Pr 17:16 av)

I have taken a few digs at George Will about his belief that there is no intelligence in the design of a penquin, but this is a good article. Will knows nothing about the God of the Bible, but sometimes makes sense when he talks about things he knows about.
