A vehicle for venting on philosophy, religion, and the general state of things. Proprietor: C. W. Powell

I'm glad she's home. I'm glad they caught the guy. But something is slimy about her father. I'm talking about the whole Elizabeth Smart business. Now they are making a movie and the producers and actors and family are falling all over themselves saying that they want to tell her story without "exploiting" Elizabeth.

Really? Her father exploited this whole thing from day one. He was able to shift the whole thing to himself and his feelings. I got so I didn't want to see his face on the screen, and I feel more about it now. I wanted to scream at the man. Now is the time to be strong, not to exploit Elizabeth to demonstrate to the world what a caring and feeling man {?} you are. But now I suppose I have revealed myself as hard-hearted. Yes, I am hard-hearted enough to think that her kidnappers ought to die. I am also hard-hearted enough to wonder how much money dad gets for the special and the movie. Will he sell America's Girl tee-shirts?

I just finished watching a bit of a TV special on CBS. Those smug sanctimonious faces, milking as much emotion as they can out of the event, [selling ads that must have cost a fortune for the advertizers--but no exploitation, you know]. This is the same Hollywood that accused Bush of "exploiting 9/11" because references are made to it in campaign literature. And Bush is the hypocrite, would you believe.

About six months ago there was an article CBSnews.com that Dad was hiring an entertainment lawyer. "Elizabeth Smart's family has hired a Los Angeles entertainment attorney to help them screen movie and book proposals about Elizabeth's abduction and remarkable return." It's good to get your daughter back; its also good to make a bundle of money on her abuction, rape, and return. And the news and entertainment industry thinks Limbaugh is a hypocrite.

Someday, many years from now, after I am in my grave, Elizabeth will tell her true story. I think it will be different from what it is now.
If only the Nobel Peace Prize were as noble as the other Nobel Prizes!
Jeff Jacoby: The hole in selecting Nobel Peace Prize winners: "It will be a long time before the Norwegian committee lives down its worst decision -- the 1994 award to terrorist chieftain Yasser Arafat (with Shimon Peres and Yitzhak Rabin) for signing the Oslo Accord in 1993. Had the committee been in less of a hurry, it would have come to realize what everyone now knows -- that Arafat's commitment to murder and warfare was undiminished.
The Swedes take their time with Nobel prizes. It's time the Norwegians learned to do likewise."

Hey, what happened to liberty? Isn't this America? If the cab companies want to have a dress code, fine; but is this the business of government? Whew? No wonder people in Florida couldn't find the holes to punch in 2000.

local6.com - News - Daytona Cab Driver Fined For Wearing Red Sox Cap: "Local 6 News reported that that a little known ordinance was passed in 1995 making it illegal to wear a baseball cap if you drive a cab in Daytona. "
If this report by Drudge is true, then some heads need to roll. Forget about prescription drugs and take care of our service men. Click on the link.

DRUDGE REPORT FLASH 2003: "The National Guard and Army Reserve soldiers' living conditions are so substandard, and the medical care so poor, that many of them believe the Army is trying push them out with reduced benefits for their ailments. One document shown to UPI states that no more doctor appointments are available from Oct. 14 through Nov. 11 -- Veterans Day."
Well, I guess you have to feel moral about something. In Hollywood you can break every one of God's Commandments, but you cannot escape your basic humanity, which calls you to make moral judgments. So after you have broken all of God's commandments, then you can feel sorry for the chickens, the whales, and the dolphins. And Rush is a hypocrit? Click the link:

Yahoo! News - Actress Pamela Anderson Urges KFC Boycott: "What KFC does to 750 million chickens each year is not civilized or acceptable,' she wrote. 'I am calling for a boycott of all KFC restaurants until my friends at PETA tell me that you have agreed to be kinder in your practices.' "

Welcome to WGOP - DC Radio 700: "Of course, in her two columns railing against Arnold Schwarzenegger and his supporters she never once mentions Gray Davis' history of violence against women. Democrat men, dontcha know, are allowed to assault and rape women." Remember Willey, Broderick, Paula Jones. Voters in America haven't.
Bennet's orientation is not biblical, but rational. He does, however, argue persuasively for the institution of marriage as between a man and a woman. Amen. Click on the next link: [You may have to register for the LATIMES web site, but it is free]

What Nature Joins Let No Gays Put Asunder: "As the proponents of gay marriage are quick to point out, promiscuity, adultery, cohabitation, divorce and out-of-wedlock births have severely damaged the institution of marriage. But this is not an argument for the redefinition of marriage. That the family is struggling today is not because of a design flaw. The problem is our failure to live up to the design."
And so George Will is right. The Islamic movement was heavily infected with the ideology of Hitler and Mussolini, were allied with them, and have built fascist style dictatorships. Saddam loved Hitler and modeled the government of Iraq after the Third Reich. It is time for us to recognize our enemy. The Cold War was just a recess. Some day the historians will call 9/11 the resumption of W.W. II.

smh.com.au - Megawati applauded Mahathir attack on Jews: "The Indonesian President, Megawati Soekarnoputri, joined a standing ovation for her Malaysian counterpart, Mahathir Mohamad, after he called on Muslims to consider Jews as their enemy, it has been revealed."
Do we have the will to persevere? The coward folds his hands and hopes the danger will pass. Are we better than that? Only time will tell--and the next elections. Click on the next link.

Victor Davis Hanson on National Review Online: "Not even sympathetic New York Times interviews with the proud families of the suicide murderers can quite salvage a shred of sympathy for their cold-blooded slaughtering, itself now robbed of Saddam's once ample subsidies. Still, if only Israel would dismantle those pesky settlements, Europeans and many Americans sigh blissfully forgetting that three wars were fought when the West Bank was under Arab sovereignty or that far more Arabs live in peace in Israel than the number of Jews who reside in fear on the West Bank."

David Limbaugh: A week in the culture war: "Those of you who think the Judge Roy Moore Ten Commandments flap in Alabama was some isolated sideshow are woefully misguided. Those of you who think that courageous Christians like Moore are the ones picking this fight by waiving the Bible in our faces apparently aren’t aware of the city by city, county by county, state by state crusade the ACLU is on to eradicate Ten Commandments displays from all public buildings.

"This secularist obsession to achieve a strict separation of church and state is not only not mandated by the Constitution, it is at war with the Constitution’s very designs about religious freedom. In the name of promoting religious liberty, the enemies of Christianity are using the First Amendment Establishment Clause as a weapon to suppress Christian religious freedom.

"No student is being forced to say the Pledge, much less the words “under God.” This isn’t a case of the government imposing Christian values on vulnerable children. This is not about separation, but about a small intolerant minority forcing its will on a heretofore passive and non-combative majority."

Right on, Matthew!!

Wheat and Chaff: "Modern versions of Christianity in this country put man at the center of his own religion, and are then surprised when man lives out the practical implication of that teaching by redesigning Christianity to fit his desires. They conduct market studies of local demographics to find out what their worship services ought to be like and are then surprised when their churches are full of people with consumerist mindsets, that go to church not to glorify and worship God, but to serve their own needs. It's a short jump from there to reading and interpreting the Bible to fit one's own theology, reinterpreting what you can reinterpret, and ignoring what you can't. And it's just another short jump from there to regarding the Bible itself as unnecessary."

Excite - Sports News: "In a sharply worded court filing, prosecutors said defense attorney Pamela Mackey stepped over the line last week when she asked a detective at the preliminary hearing whether injuries to the 19-year-old woman were 'consistent with a person who had sex with three different men in three days.' "

There is a clear message being sent to young women across the country. Don't you dare accuse a rich and famous and powerful sports figure of rape, no matter what the situation. You will be smeared and destroyed.

What is wrong with the judge? The defense attorney babe used the victim's name in open court SIX times, which is against the law in Colorado, and against the express directions of the judge. She should have been found in contempt of court, fined, and thrown into the hoosegow. If the judge won't demand respect, who will?

Maybe its my point of view. I have always thought that Kobe was an arrogant baby, and I never liked the Lakers because of him. I like Shaq, but Kobe is just too much.
WorldNetDaily: U.S. terror allies raising millions: "For example, last week police broke up a money laundering scheme using dozens of convenience stores in Cincinnati's poorest neighborhoods. More than $100 million was raised by selling stolen goods and inflating prices for the desperately poor, say police and prosecutors, who believe the money might have been used to fund terrorism around the globe. "

Is it anyone's doubt that we are at war? This is a more deadly threat than the one from communism, and it will be a longer one. The war to defend the West from Islam has been going on for over 12 centuries--and don't forget the word "defense." Christian nations and people were attacked by Islam long before there was any offensive action taken by Christian states. Don't let the propaganda about the Crusades fool you. They started it.

Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life - Religion and Politics: Contention and Consensus (Part I): "Relatively few Americans express concern about the use of religious rhetoric by political leaders. In fact, nearly twice as many say there has been too little reference to religious faith and prayer by politicians (41%) than say there has been too much (21%). President Bush receives particularly positive ratings in this regard. "

The courts have done it, of course--removing religion from the public forum. Not by elections, not by legislatures--but by the usurping of power by the courts, because they think that the words have no meaning, just whatever meaning the judges decide, which may change from time to time.
Funny about the news media and the Hollywood crowd. They trade in hypocrisy. The movie is all make-believe. If it didn't show so much about the graymatter of the average American, it would be funny when some actor who plays a doctor on the screen is trotted out to give his medical opinion about AIDS or something; or an actress who sleeps with politicians is asked for her political opinion. It would be better if the latter were asked how the jerk was in bed. That's the only thing she knows anything about.

As for the "news" media, they trade in deceit and rumor. As Drudge said to them, empty your own pockets before you criticize Limbaugh for getting hooked on prescription medicine. Probably one of the best quotes of the week: "There's no law against being a hypocrite a few times in your life." [Matt Drudge] But what of those who trade in deceit and lies?

Sunday, October 12, 2003

Well said, Matt Drudge. Christians believe in forgiveness, but it must be in truth, and confession must be in truth.

MATT DRUDGE // DRUDGE REPORT 2003®: "DRUDGE: I think he is being sent up the river and I think we'll see him paddle back down. On this, there's no law against being a hypocrite a few times in your life. And this industry is built on hypocrisy! Like I said I'm challenging the media tonight to empty their pockets! "
FOXNews.com - Politics - 'Marriage Protection Week' Likely to Spark Debate: "'It's critically important that the media ask the Bush administration and its supporters to defend their association with professional homophobes who seek to target, undermine and destroy American families. Such attempts to deny protections to some American families are in fact an attack on all of them.' "

The Sodomite Coalition wants to change the meaning of words so that marriage no longer means what it has meant since the creation of the world. We save our marriages by defending homosexual marriage. Isn't that something? We save marriage by defining it out of existence. By the use of manipulative words, they would have us believe that when we defend marriage we are attacking marriage.

Is there any doubt that this is the judgment of God described in Romans 1:22ff? Foolishness is wisdom; war is peace; hate is love; bad is good; women are men; and men are women; the devil is God; and hell is heaven. Because the people did not honor God as God, God threw them into a complete morass of undifferentiated moral chaos.

God gave us minds to think with; if we don't do it, He blasts them and all our light becomes darkness. Rom. 1:28

Matthew 6:23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!
