HeraldNet: Jesus as an icon thrives in America: "There's black Jesus, and white Jesus. Homely and handsome, capitalist and socialist, stern and hippie. Hardworking social reformer, mystical comforter. "
---------
But the only real Jesus, the one who came to save His people from their sins is found only in the Gospel of the Scriptures. The New Testament warns us of following "another" Jesus, for even Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

2Cor. 11:3,4: "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him."

There are some things that you better get right, and one of them is the doctrine of Jesus Christ: 2 John 1:9 "Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son."

The trouble is, when men no longer believe the Scriptures, then their minds are blinded and they invent their own gods. They call their new gods by the name of their old gods, just as Israel did when Aaron made the golden calf: "This is the god that brought you out of Egypt." The calf wasn't Jehovah, of course, and these modern inventions are not Jesus. Just as Justin Pope said in the HeraldNet article: "Readers looking for the one true Jesus won't find him in two new books about Jesus in America. Instead, they will discover the extraordinary range of identities Jesus has assumed in American history and culture - in art, music, literature and more - over the past four centuries. " They won't find salvation either, for that doesn't come from following your own imagination.

Jeremiah 23:24-26 "Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD. I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart;"
